Africa’s Lost Generation

The future appears to hold little hope for the starving children of Africa trapped in a world of horror. One story struck me the other day that summed up the plight of 1.4M children who face imminent death.

To me, it captured the hopelessness of the famine tidal wave facing Africa’s children. A photograph accompanying the story moved me most. The picture shows a Mother, Astar, stroking her newborn son, Absame. Absame looks calm and alert, tucked in a brightly colored blanket. Beyond the blanket, the baby’s world looks very grim.

You need only look at Astar’s stressed expression to get a glimpse of what the future holds for her. Will Astar’s son become part of this “lost generation”?
